Vinyl disk with etched
"sound grooves" used for storing sound recordings.
Thomas Edison first invented a recording device that captured sound
waves etched in tin foil cylinders. A patent was issued for this device
in 1878.
Vinyl records were being replaced by Compact disc (CD), but recently a
resurgance of the vinyl disk has record companies producing CD and
Vinyl for "premium" artists.
